“B” is for…

Brayered Background and a Button!

Okay, here’s my take.  I drew my inspiration from Michelle Zindorf and her fabulous blog, Freedom in Creating.  You must check it out!  Michelle not only is the “Brayer Queen” but she posts tutorials on just how she creates those brayered beauties.  Thank you Michelle!  Anyway, Zindorf I’m not but here is my attempt to inspire you

Once I finished this card, I realized that some pretty little butterflies would look great flitting around the grass.  Of course, I didn’t order the new Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die  found in the new Occasions Mini Catalog.  I’m kicking myself now!  And, yes, they will be on my next order.  Anyway, I love how this card turned out.  Here’s a somewhat detailed pictorial of how I achieved this look.  (Keep in mind, I’m no Zindorf.)

BbStarting with a 5.5” x 4.25” piece of Barely Banana, I masked off the sun using a sticky note that I punched using the 1-3/8” circle punch.  I tore a scrap piece of cardstock in two to mask off the bottom portion of the background…this forms your horizon.  (Keep Bcthe other half of your torn scrap because we will use it later.)  I brayered across the top using So Saffron Classic ink

Then, I sponged on Crushed Curry around the sun and along the horizon.

BdI finished the sky portion by brayering on Pumpkin Pie in the upper half and then Pretty In Pink in just the upper most quarter of the sky.  I sponged a little of the Pretty in Pink along the horizon line too.

BeRemove the masking from the sun and lower portion.  Use the second half of the scrap you tore to mask off the top half.  Align the scrap with your horizon.

BgBrayer the bottom with Mellow Moss.  Sponge right along the masking line with Soft Suede.  I pulled the ink down into the Mellow Moss.  It gives it depth and a look of being off in the distance.

Brayer Tip:  As with any brayered technique, it may take a couple of passes and a re-inking or two to get the desired look you want.

BhRemove the masking and stamp the grass from Inspired by Nature in Chocolate Chip

To finish this off, I used my white gel pen to highlight the edge of the grass that faces the sun.  Linen thread and a So Saffron button lend themselBaves to a natural feel.  The Best Wishes sentiment is from the Kind & Caring Thoughts Level 2 Hostess set.  Finally, I mounted it onto a Whisper White card base.

I do enjoy using the brayer.  It may seem a bit intimidating at first, but, the more you use it, the easier it gets.  It does take a bit of practice and I think it is a technique that you’ll either love to do or not.

I hope you have been inspired to at least give it a try.  Let me know what you think of today’s post.  I love to hear from you.  Thanks for stopping by today.  I’ll “C” you tomorrow! =)

Hugs,

~Leslee~
